Meet Andy Burgess
Director of Special Events at Seattle Art Museum
Andy Burgess is the Director of Special Events at the Seattle Art Museum and has been with the museum for 20 years. She is part of the Development team and oversees the museums fundraising, cultivation, and benefit events including; major galas, exhibition openings, intimate donor dinners, artist receptions, and a vast array of stewardship and community engagement events. Andy also played key roles in the downtown museum expansion, the development of the Olympic Sculpture, and the recent renovation at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, focusing on development of the events spaces, uses, and functions - along with overseeing the vast array of opening events for each site.
Andy is a creative, resourceful and outgoing event director with over 30 years of experience in the Northwest. The diverse and fast paced world of events is one she thrives in and is a dedicated team player because successful events take a village! She has a passion for creating events that are unique and memorable with just the right amount of playfulness layered in. She prides herself on creating events people are excited to attend, where they feel special, welcome, and appreciated and believes the key to a successful event it's all in the little details.
Prior to working at SAM, Andy was the Program Director for Bellingham 2000 – a cultural and environmental celebration of the Millennium in and around Bellingham, WA. She also worked at the MS Society, overseeing gala auctions, golf tournaments and working on their annual fundraising walks and bike rides. She started her special events career at the Pacific Science Center as the Development Coordinator after graduating with a BA in Art History from Western Washington University.
